Support wagons for 120mm Krupp howitzers

 

 

The spare carriage wagon had the same limber as the gun, and carried the same number of projectiles, besides three wheels with their accessories, a shaft, an axletree, a draught pole, a swingletree, a splinter bar, a traversing lever, and two alluminium chests. The wheels were fitted on a pivot bore by the cover of the wagon, while the axletree was fixed between the two boxes, secured by a linchpin with chain and grommet.

The carriage-chest carried a monkey wrench, a belt with loop for the shoulder, a fuze bag with strap, a bag with straps for primers, a pair of pincers, a hammer, a fuze-setting key.

The tools-chest carried 8 leather disks for the wheels, a brass disk for the shaft, a big bottle of oil, a big box of tallow, a spare hub, an elevating screw, 2 back-washers, 4 linch-washers, 2 linchpins, 2 limber-hook keys, a jack, a limber-hook, a trail-eye, a limber-chain, 6 spokes, a driving rope.

 

The limber of the field forge loocked like that of the gun limber, but without trail-eye for sponge and the loop for the lever. A pick, a spade, 2 hatchets, 2 water buckets, a box of grease, a padlock, a sledge-hammer, a cross peen hammer, and a bag containing a linchpin, a lantern, a limber-hook key and 8 leather disks were hung on the walls of the chest.

The wagon body was composed by a frame, a ventilator with its box, a  blast-furnace, a grindstone, a vice and a sheet iron chest, carrying horseshoes, supplies and every kind of blacksmith tools packed in six wooden boxes.

 

The howitzer was provided with two different kind of store wagons. Their limbers were manufactured along the same broad outline of the gun limber, but with a higher chest. Outside they both carried a box of grease, 2 axes, 2 hatchets, 2 spades, a pick, a water bucket and 2 padlocks.

Inside the chest the store wagon Nr. 1 carried the veterinary medicine-box, the bag of the wheeler, 2 anvils with their hammers, 2 whet-stones, a big bottle of oil, a big box of tallow, a box with screws, nuts and bolts of various kinds, 2 linchpins, 8 straps for linchpins, 2 linch-washers, a back-washer and 8 leather disks.

The N. 2 carried the bag of the saddler, a box with writing implements, a driving rope, 5 horse-brushes, 5 curry-combs, 2 linchpins, 8 straps for linchpins, 2 linch-washers, a back-washer and 8 leather disks.

The wagon body was almost the same as the caisson of the ammunition wagon, with only some minor differences. A scythe, 2 wheels, a folding pole, 8 leather straps and 4 padlocks were hung on the walls of the chest. Inside the chest the store wagon Nr. 1 carried the veterinary medicine-box, 15 reaping-hook and a lantern, while the Nr. 2 another lantern, 3 master bars, 2 splinter bars, 2 swingletree, 12 spokes and a jack.
